Don Lucho’s Camp
Don Lucho has a beautiful center near a small village named Manacamiri, just across the Nanay river from Iquitos. His center, called Kapitari Centro de Investigaciones, has a nearby farm of ten hectares where don Lucho studies plant relationships and permaculture techniques. The camp is based around a series of man made ponds, with ten private huts encircling the ponds and ten more currently in construction. Including rooms with two and three beds, the camp has a capacity of 15 people. The private huts are fully screened in and each has its own bathroom. The bathrooms are simple, with a toilet and a bucket of water to flush it and wash up.
The private huts are excellent for doing plant diets where seclusion and silence is needed. In addition to the private huts, the camp has an open air kitchen, a screened in dining room, and a magnificent ceremony maloca. Near the maloca there are also several residencies for don Lucho and the permanent staff at the center. The shared bathing area is a private area by a bubbling brook. The water is often warmed by the sun during the day and very refreshing.
The ceremony maloca is large and fully screened in. There are rustic outhouses near the maloca for use during ceremonies. Inside the maloca are mattresses for ceremony participants and a few comfortable chairs. The space is wonderful for ceremonies. A one hour hike is required to get to the camp, after a short boat ride across the Nanay river. There are some hiking trails near the camp, including the trail that leads to don Lucho’s farm.
