Doña Othelia

The daughter of indigenous curanderos (both parents were healers), doña Othelia never had a set initiation, for she grew up in the environment of plant spirit medicine from birth, and thus knew the science her entire life. Her childhood was an initiation. Othelia’s specialty is reading cigarettes, a form of divination similar to reading tea leaves or tarot cards. She maintains an intimate connection with the spiritual dimensions through dieting and drinking ayahuasca and has a fine intuition due to this connection. She is a powerful vegetalista and ayahuasquera.

I first drank with Don Juan in 2007 and that was life altering. When I went back in 2009, Carlos was working with Dona Othelia. The first ceremony seemed rather weak and I was disappointed. I began to doubt her abilities. The next ceremony was so incredibly powerful and beautiful I was on the ground almost crying and silently apologizing for doubting her ability. I have since been in six ceremonies with her.
Doña Othelia is a very powerful ayahuascera and healer, although you might not guess it, due to her unpretentious, unassuming presence and somewhat laid-back personal style. I have participated in four ceremonies with her, two in January, 2010, and two in July, 2010, and each of those ceremonies has been progressively more intense and transformative. I have set out on a new spiritual path thanks to my experiences with doña Othelia (and don Enrique as well) and I intend to return to Iquitos and the Amazon rainforest to continue growing and evolving spiritually at the next available opportunity (January, 2011, I hope). At higher dosages, doña Othelia’s distinctively formulated ayahuasca involves a much stronger mareacion and purge than the standard formula, but that is just the price of admission for a thoroughly amazing/astounding/incredible experience. Doña Othelia (in spanish: Otilia) is very deep and wise, and I think Daniel used very very good words to define her, I can’t find better ones in english: unpretentious, unassuming presence and somewhat laid-back personal style. But when you decide to trust her deeply, she can bring you very very far…I strongly suggest her…
